More than 3 quarters of the Lower Rhine Area are green. Farming dominates the area with large pasturage and arable land. Similar to the neighbour The Netherlands, mainly fruit, vegetables and flowers are grown. Recreational and leisure-time-facilities are unique. The nature reserve "Old Rhine" near Xanten invites you for hiking and cycling on numerous tracks. The Roman town "Colonia Ulpia Traiana" was partly reconstructed in Xanten. Archeology and Roman culture are easy accessible. The annual Summer Festival takes place in the Amphitheatre there. |

Kevelaer is a well known place of pilgrimage where 800 000 pilgrims come to visit the Chapel of Grace each year. In Goch you can do canoe tours on the river Niers. Make a cycling tour through the Düffel area in Kranenburg or take a walk in the medieval park in Kleve. Near Kalkar, directly situated at the Rhine shore the notoriuosly known "Schneller Brüter" a former nuclear power station was transformed into an amusement park. Germany's biggest tractor museum is to be seen in the leisure-park "Pauenhof" in Sonsbeck. Over 1 hundred of these monsters of the most different origins were collected. People, who hold themselves capable, may test these oldtimers on a round trip. |
